Myth Behind the Dhakmar Red Cliff
In the 8th century, Guru Rinpoche (aka Padmasambhava) killed the demon. The monster's entrails were splattered and used to form Mandaringma, the longest prayer wheel wall in the world. A Chhorten was built over his bones and the remaining parts of his body. His lungs and blood formed the Dhakmar Hill, which is red even today.
The giant red cliff of Dhakmar is over 2 kilometers. This huge natural structure can be seen by travelers from the roadside as it is visible from the Jomsom-Korola Highway at Ghami, just after crossing the Ghami Khola (stream). However, due to a lack of publicity, Nepali travelers hardly visit this red cliff site and stop for photography. Foreigners, on the other hand, stop there and enjoy this miraculous scenery.
Multiple Mini Caves
Located at the heart of mystical Mustang, Dhakmar has hundreds of mini caves. These caves have immense historical and spiritual significance. At a wonderful site, the local government has created the Zeo-park- an entrance to all the caves with a safety railing.
It is believed that the workers carved the hill about 2000 years ago. Many people took shelter there; when there was a Khampa insurgency.
The local government of Ghami has promoted spirituality, as Mustang Caves are renowned for meditation and historical exploration. Even the Himalayan views of the Annapurna surroundings can be explored, including Mount Nilgiri, Tilicho, and others.
The history of Mustang and the indigenous communities was based on the animal husbandry profession. Once the tourism flourished in Mustang since 1992 AD. Mustang changed its identity and marked itself as one of the most remarkable destinations in the world.
