Welcome to Mustang Muktinath Overland Jeep Tour. It’s an exceptional tour for you, your friends, and your families. At the heart of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalayas, the trans-Himalayan landscape of the Mustang region is great to explore throughout the year. The striking culture of the Tibetan Buddhists, hospitality, and primarily their spiritual way of life, along with the historically significant ritual sites, make Mustang literally for all.

Past Vs Present: Trip Modification in Mustang

When Mustang opened for foreigners in 1992, it was one of the best trekking destinations in the world. Still, we can see several trekking groups along the way while driving towards Upper Mustang- Lomanthang. Trekkers would walk for 10 days in this hidden landscape covering the route from Kagbeni-Chhuksang-Chele- Syangbochen-Ghami-Tsarang-Lomanthang. A huge caravan could be seen exploring and marching through the isolated landscape and the Tibetan Buddhist settlements.

But the time has changed now.

Now, travelers choose a jeep ride. It became possible after the strategic Highway-Korola Highway came into practice. The total 3-week journey became possible in a week or less from Pokhara, which is relatively luxurious too.

There are different ways to explore the dramatic landscape of Upper Mustang- from 4 days to 10 days. We will be giving a clear-cut program in the itinerary section.

    Dhakmar Red Cliff

The Dhakmar Red Cliffs are one of the most impressive attractions in Upper Mustang. It is located above Dhakmar, which is famous for its unique pattern, spiritual aspects, and towering crimson.

The sandy red cliff is famous for its vivid red color, iron-rich sedimentary rock, and honeycomb formations. The cliff has several caves and a distinct textured appearance. The most interesting aspect of this cliff is that you will see different colors depending on the daylight.

The red cliff of Dhakmar is deeply associated with the myth of Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), which is believed to be red with the blood of a demon.

    Tsarang Monastery

Tsarang Monastery (also called Charang Gumba) is a prime attraction in the Upper Mustang region, especially for the Tibetan Buddhist spiritual exploration. It is 20km away from the capital of Upper Mustang, Lomanthang. The monastery dates back to the 14th century and has long served as a major center of Tibetan Buddhism in Mustang, which belongs to the Sakya school of Tibetan Buddhism. Charang Gumba has been built in the traditional Tibetan style using mud-brick walls and timber. It contains a large assembly hall with rows of prayer seats for monks. It houses centuries-old wall paintings depicting Buddhas, bodhisattvas, and protector deities.

    Nearby attractions

    • Tsarang Palace, a five-story royal palace built in the 15th century.
    • Ancient chortens (stupas) and traditional mani walls.
    • The village's network of narrow alleys, fields, and irrigation canals.

    Luri Gompa

    The stone-walled town- Lomanthang

Lo Manthang (often written as "Lomanthang") is the historic walled capital of the former Kingdom of Mustang in northwestern Nepal, close to the border with Tibet.

It features an ancient walled city, founded in the 14th century, surrounded by mud-brick walls, and contains narrow streets, traditional houses, and royal architecture. Lomanthang is home to centuries-old Buddhist monasteries such as Jampa Monastery, Thubchen Monastery, and Chode Monastery. The people preserve a Tibetan-influenced language, customs, festivals, and Buddhist traditions.

    Chodzong Cave Gompa

Chodzong Gompa (aka Chodzong Cave) is a small Buddhist cave monastery located in the Upper Mustang region of Nepal. It is heavily isolated, and you need to travel there from Lomanthang with a special arrangement of a horse and food, along with taking a caretaker of the monastery.

    • Perched on a rocky hillside with panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and cliffs.
    • Associated with the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, reflecting the strong cultural ties between Upper Mustang and Tibet.
    • Features traditional mud-brick construction, prayer flags, chortens (stupas), and ancient murals, although many parts have weathered over time.
    • Offers a quiet atmosphere compared with the better-known monasteries around Lo Manthang.
