Welcome to the Milarepa Caves Buddhist Pilgrimage Circuit Tour in Nepal. The Himalayas of Nepal are loaded with the sacred caves of Jetsun Milarepa, who is a famous Tibetan Yogi, composer, poet, writer, and singer. Along with the caves of Milarepa, there are many Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) caves. The beautiful Himalayan country of Nepal is also a Buddhist spiritual paradise.
There are two areas of this tour: Manang in the Annapurna region and Lapchi in the Gaurishankar Conservation Area of Dolakha.
Milarepa Cave Manang is a delightful cave located at the top of the hill of the Manang district, northwest Nepal. The myth of meditating Milarepa without eating any grains, saving a deer from the hunter, and singing different songs are legendary for the Tibetan Buddhist devotees. Milarepa cave, Manang, is also one of the prime attractions in the beautiful Manang valley, which can be explored during your Annapurna Circuit Trek.
Lapchi is a remote terrain of Dolakha, close to Tibet, in northeast Nepal. It is protected under the Gaurishankar Conservation Area Project (GCAP). Lapchi has a tiny settlement, and the people who settle in this place are Tibetan Buddhists. Close to the village, there are an abundant number of caves, which are known as the Milarepa caves. Among them, Sephuk Cave, Dudul Cave, and two monasteries are prime attractions in Lapchi.
Transportation
Although you will get access with the public bus upto half of the way, we organize the tour only with 4WD Jeeps. The road to Manang Milarepa Cave and Lapchi Milarepa Cave require a good transportation. To ensure the safety of our travelers, we organize private transportation accordingly.
Food and Accommodation
Manang Milarepa Cave is situated in the Annapurna Conservation Area, so you will have a delightful trip in the Himalayas with multiple selections of accommodation and get the food of your choice. However, you need to compromise on the luxury in the Lapchi Milarepa Cave trip, as you have the least selection, especially close to the destination.
Guide and Porters
Our guides and porters for the Milarepa pilgrimage tour are professionals in the field. Please note that all guides are practitioners, so you can’t rely on them for the depth of Milarepa, but they take you to the heart of the Milarepa pilgrimage sites of Manang and Lapchi. Especially about Lapchi, it is the least explored route, and only a few of our guides have been leading there. If you try to get info from others, they may be misleading based on their previous trips, but there have been so many changes in the trip (road, accommodation, and lodges). Best Time/Season for the Milarepa Pilgrimage Tour and Trek
Except for the monsoon season, all other time is suitable for the Milarepa Pilgrimage Tour and Trekking.
Spring (March-April-May): the days are warmer, and the views are delightful. You just need to pack light clothes and sunblock hat/cream/sunglasses.
Autumn (September-October-November): The weather will be wonderful during the day. Night may become a bit cold, but not high. The views, wild flowers, and waterfalls look awesome.
Winter (December-January-February): To be honest, winter is the best time to travel to Manang and Lapchi Milarepa Cave. All you need to know is you need to pack a bit more as the nights are colder. But the days are often amazing with sunshine. The preparation should be with proper warm clothes, hiking boots, warm socks, trousers, jackets, and many more. But the days are amazing to walk and explore.
Itinerary Customization
The itinerary is suitable for a usual plan. However, it may differ in your interest as people find Lapchi a heaven for meditation and being in the heart of Buddhist spirituality. So, you may prefer to increase the duration of your stay and meditate. It is not a problem to increase the duration in Manang, but to increase the duration in Lapchi, you need to inform us beforehand as we need to arrange the permit accordingly.
Better to know beforehand
Nepal Kameleon Holidays has traced some fundamentals that are better to know beforehand, which help you to prepare the trip properly.
Phone Network and Internet WiFi
Manang Route: It's wonderful. You can use a cell phone in most of the places as well as WiFi networks. The Annapurna region is a facilitated zone in terms of communication.
Lapchi Route: By now, there's no phone network, mobile data, or any internet or WiFi connection in Lapchi, once you cross Lama Bagar. So, you need to be prepared to stay without connection for at least 3 days, depending on how many days at Lapchi. Just so you know, this service may be upgraded by the time you do the Lapchi Milarepa Cave Tour and Trekking. (Get recent update: +977 9851159455- WhatsApp)
Meals on the way
Manang Route: You can have wonderful meals on the way to Manang Milarepa Cave. As this region is a heavily touristic region in the season, you will find typical Nepali, Indian, Chinese, and continental dishes. However, they will have a local flavour in them.
Lapchi Route: Meanwhile, on the Lapchi route, your food selection option is low. Upto Lamabagar, you can have your selected meals as there are hotels and restaurants. Heading above Lamabagar, the landscape is like no man's land. So, you need to bring a packed lunch on the way from Lamabagar.
Electricity and Battery Charge
Manang Route has facilities for charging batteries, and they have electricity. They charge an extra cost for that in some places.
The Lapchi Route does not have electricity above Lamabagar. At Lapchi, you will get solar energy, but it may not function properly to charge your devices. So, better to bring a power bank with a solar charging system. You need a battery full device as the Lapchi area is amazing for photography.
